sporty Thievz

Around 2012 the Sporty Thievz website ran a small digital music store built on an off-the-shelf script. This overview explains how it was arranged, based on archived pages. No purchases or downloads are available through this site.

Four collections

  1. FK Facebook, the single.** A one-track release credited to King Kirk of Sporty Thievz. It carried the tongue-in-cheek song about social media trouble at home.
  2. Free music production. Seven instrumental pieces produced by King Kirk, offered at no charge.
  3. Production for sale. A set of four instrumentals listed as paid items.
  4. Free music downloads. Four recordings by the group, including the No Pigeons remix.

How the store worked

Each collection opened onto a page with a track list, running times and a short preview player. A cart counter at the top displayed the number of items and a running total, which stayed at zero for anything priced as free.

Why it matters

The catalogue shows how the group approached independent distribution after the label years, giving instrumentals and remixes to fans and producers directly. For details on individual groups of tracks, visit the free tracks page, the single and the 2013 mixtape listing. The story of the group itself starts on the home page.
